In 2018, the US Navy ordered 44 tiltrotor aircraft under the designation CMV-22B for rescue missions and supplying aircraft carrier groups on the high seas. Compared to the standard version, which is used in large numbers by the Marine Corps, the Navy version has an extended range thanks to the installation of additional tanks. One of four units currently using this naval variant is Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron 40, or VRM-40, assigned to the Atlantic Fleet and newly established in the year 2022.
