While Allied air superiority prevents the Fallschirmjger (pronounced falshirrmyearga) from swooping from the sky like the eagle emblazoned on their badge, these elite troops still form the bulwark that repeatedly denies the Americans critical positions such as Carentan and St. L, delaying their breakout for critical weeks.
Fallschirmjger rifle platoons are larger than normal rifle platoons to allow for expected parachuting casualties on landing. This added manpower gives them greater resilience in prolonged ground operations. The esprit de corps of the Fallschirmjger together with their extra team per squad make them the toughest and most feared German light infantry.
